Beehiiv pricing has one defining feature: a steep cliff between free and paid. The Launch plan gives you 2,500 subscribers at no cost. The moment you want monetization, automations, or A/B testing, you’re looking at $49/month minimum. That jump is the single most important thing to understand about Beehiiv’s pricing.

All Plans at a Glance
Beehiiv has four tiers: Launch (free), Scale, Max, and Enterprise. Pricing scales by subscriber count on the paid plans.
Monthly billing prices:
| Subscribers | Launch (Free) | Scale | Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,000 | $0/mo | $49/mo | $109/mo |
| 2,500 | $0/mo | $69/mo | $149/mo |
| 5,000 | - | $89/mo | $169/mo |
| 10,000 | - | $109/mo | $219/mo |
| 25,000 | - | $169/mo | $289/mo |
| 50,000 | - | $199/mo | $379/mo |
| 75,000 | - | $289/mo | $419/mo |
| 100,000 | - | $329/mo | $459/mo |
Annual billing saves 14-16%. At the base tier, Scale drops to $43/month ($517/year) and Max to $96/month ($1,151/year).
Launch Plan - Free
The free plan is practically useful - not a demo or a trial.
What you get:
- Up to 2,500 subscribers
- Unlimited email sends
- Custom website with your own domain
- Custom newsletters
- Campaign analytics (basic metrics)
- Recommendation Network access
- AI writing assistant (10 uses/day)
- API access (excluding Send API)
- Up to 3 publications
What you don’t get:
- Monetization (no ad network, no Boosts, no paid subscriptions)
- Email automations
- A/B testing
- Surveys and polls
- Human support (AI assistant only)
- Advanced analytics
The 2,500 subscriber limit is competitive. It’s less than Kit’s 10,000 free subscribers, but more than Mailchimp’s 250 or MailerLite’s 500. For testing the platform and growing an initial audience, it’s enough.
The missing pieces matter though. No automations means you can’t build a welcome sequence. No A/B testing means you can’t optimize subject lines. And no monetization means you can’t earn anything until you upgrade. If you’re serious about your newsletter, you’ll hit the Scale paywall quickly.
Scale Plan - Starting at $49/month
This is where Beehiiv becomes a real business tool. Scale unlocks everything most newsletter creators need.
Everything on Launch, plus:
- Ad Network access (display ads in your newsletter)
- Boosts Network (get paid for newsletter recommendations)
- 0% take rate on paid subscriptions
- Digital product sales
- Email automations
- Surveys and polls
- A/B testing
- Advanced website analytics
- Webhooks
- Up to 3 team seats
- Slack community access
- Human support
- AI writing assistant (25 uses/day)
The 0% take on paid subscriptions is Scale’s biggest selling point. Substack takes 10% of your subscription revenue. On Scale, Beehiiv takes nothing beyond the Stripe processing fee. If you’re generating $1,000/month in subscriptions, that’s $100/month you keep that Substack would take.
The ad network and Boosts are the other differentiators. No other email platform offers a built-in marketplace where advertisers come to you. The revenue potential depends heavily on your list size and niche - creators with 10,000+ engaged subscribers in a specific vertical will earn more than a broad, small list.
At $49/month for up to 1,000 subscribers, Scale is expensive compared to Kit Creator ($39/month) or MailerLite Growing Business ($10/month). The value proposition only makes sense if you plan to use the monetization features. If you just need email marketing without the ad network and Boosts, you’re overpaying.
Max Plan - Starting at $109/month
Max adds features that matter for larger publishers and teams.
Everything on Scale, plus:
- Remove Beehiiv branding from your publications
- Sponsorship storefront
- Podcast websites
- Audio newsletters
- Digital products with appointment scheduling
- RSS to Send
- Up to 10 publications (vs 3 on Scale)
- Unlimited team seats
- Priority human support
- Getty Image credits
- Dynamic content
- AI writing assistant (50 uses/day)
The branding removal alone might justify the upgrade for some publishers. Having “Powered by Beehiiv” on your publication can undermine the professional feel. The 10 publications limit (vs 3 on Scale) matters for media companies running multiple newsletters.
For most solo creators, Max is overkill. The jump from $49 to $109 is significant, and the additional features - podcast sites, audio newsletters, sponsorship storefront - are niche. I’d recommend starting with Scale and upgrading only when you’re consistently using features that require Max.
Enterprise - Custom Pricing
For publishers with 100,000+ subscribers. Includes dedicated IP addresses, concierge onboarding, a dedicated account manager, Send API access, custom publication limits, and SSO. Contact Beehiiv for pricing.
How Beehiiv’s Pricing Compares
| Subscribers | Beehiiv Scale | Kit Creator | MailerLite Growing | ActiveCampaign Starter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $49/mo | $39/mo | $10/mo | $19/mo |
| 2,500 | $69/mo | $59/mo | $25/mo | $39/mo |
| 5,000 | $89/mo | $89/mo | $39/mo | $79/mo |
| 10,000 | $109/mo | $139/mo | $73/mo | $189/mo |
At lower subscriber counts, Beehiiv is one of the more expensive options. MailerLite costs a fraction of the price. Kit is slightly cheaper. Only at 10,000+ subscribers does Beehiiv start to look competitive on price alone.
The pricing comparison misses the point though. Beehiiv’s value isn’t in the base email features - it’s in the monetization tools. If the ad network and Boosts generate more than $49/month, the platform pays for itself. If you’re not using those features, you’re paying a premium for a newsletter editor.
My Recommendation
Start with Launch if you’re just starting a newsletter. 2,500 free subscribers gives you room to validate your idea.
Upgrade to Scale when you’re ready to monetize - whether through ads, Boosts, or paid subscriptions. The 0% take on subscriptions is a real differentiator.
Skip Max unless you’re running multiple publications or need to remove Beehiiv branding for professional reasons.
Consider Kit instead if you want a more generous free tier (10,000 subscribers), stronger automations, or you’re selling courses and digital products rather than monetizing through ads.
Consider MailerLite instead if you need affordable email marketing without newsletter-specific monetization features. It’s 4-5x cheaper at the same subscriber count.
